Dan and I sent the last 4 days in California snowboarding. It was amazing because the weather was so incredibly warm. Anyway, more on that to come on the main site soon. SO I took a few pictures of the flowers before we left and a few this morning. (We got back last night).
Before we left the Camellia was still blooming.
The Leucothe (sp?) I planted by the side window is blooming. The flowers are neat little finge pompoms.
I am excited about the Bleeding Heart. I planted it while it was dormant, so seeing the blooms begin to pop out brings me hope about the other things I have planted.
Here is the Forsythia now that it is all bloomed out. I will probably cut it back in the next few weeks.
The purple hyacinth have bloomed. They smell so wonderful.
Here you can see the Oakleaf hydrangea beginning to leaf out. You can also see the old leaves (in red) that did not fall off because the winter was not so cold. The green ones are new.
When we returned there were many new suprises. Just so you know, these pictures are not the greatest but I decided to keep them. I think the camera focused in on the wrong parts of the picture, like the background instead of the flower.
Here is the bleeding heart. The blooms are opening. They are so beautiful.
It looks like the Purple Palace Heuchera just exploded over night. It may be a little hard to tell with the new mulch color though.
New little hosta are poking their heads out.
These little guys are popping up by the Heuchera. The only thing I remember planting there are Japanese Painted Fern, but this looks very different. I am not sure if it is something I have just forgotten about or if the fern look very different when they are young.
This is interesting to me. There are Johnny Jump-ups growing wild all in the woodland garden area. Almost like weeds. And yet people pay lots of money for these flowers. I am chopping my down.
The Spirea is looking very cheerful as the new leaves are emerging. This is 'Gold Mound" I believe so it should remain fairly small in size. (Good).
Last but not least I have a new bulb that has emerged. I have no idea what it is though, but I like it.
Most of my tomato seedlings died while we were on vacation. Some of them are ok, but it looks like I will need to start another batch. Not a big deal (except for the effort) since staggering the planting time means I stretch the harvest time.
Today I put out the other seedlings to start breaking them into the weather. I have basil, sweet pea, hot peppers and eggplants.
This weekend I will take the compost and spread it on the veggie bed and till it in and plant the veggies (finally) so stay tuned.
