We have had a great weekend. Another shrub in bloom - I have two Camellia 'Crimson Candles', but only one has blooms on it this year. I have been waiting forever for it to open, and Friday it did.
Saturday afternoon Dan worked on the Grapevine trellis. I did a little clean up and noticed the lilies begining to come up. I am not sure of the variety, as they were here when we moved in. But I cleaned up the debris around them so they will make a better show this year. Also, I dug up a few and put them in the herb beds.
We have this very large and certainly very old forsythia near the compost beds. It is begining to bloom. I cut some of the pine tree down to give the bush more sun. It probably will not bloom well since it appears no one has been taking care of it. Once it is in full bloom I will be better able to see the old wood and prune it better for a great show next year.
THEN Dan and I cleaned up and went to see Lincoln Park in concert. It was wonderful!!
Today we worked very hard. Dan completed the Grapevine Trellis. You have to admit, it looks wonderful, even without knowing what it looked like before.
Daniel also finished the lattice on the fence - well, about 99%.
The big project for the day for me was preping a new vegetable bed. It took a long time to mark it out and make sure it was square at the angles.
It is 27' x 39' and has an awesome layout. Stay tuned for a graphical depiction of the bed. We tilled it about 3" and then again at about 12". The worse part was picking up all the rocks in the soil. About a wheelbarrow's worth. The soil looks pretty good. The next step is to mark out the beds and walking trails. Very exciting.
