I think I must begin almost every post with how disappointed I am that I have not written sooner. I wish I were disciplined enough to write at least weekly.
For my birthday Pa and Linda got me a new birdfeeder. They also got me some feed which is different than what I had before. The birds love it. I have put all three in the back so I can see them from my seat in the living room.
The project I am working on now is knitting a cardigan. It is taking all of my time. To the detriment of the house, laundry, yard, work, etc. I am at a difficult place right now. It has giving me a headache. So I thought I would take a break and work on some yard planning.
I checked the Walter Reeves website (www.walterreeves.com) for what to do this month based on what is in our yard.
February
- Prune apple and pear trees
- Prune 1/4 (or less) branches from the fig tree (keep the horizontal branches)
- Force blooms on Spirea, Forsythia and Quince
- Plant sweet peas
- In veggie garden plant english peas, onions, asparagus
- Clean out bird boxes
- Prune butterfly bush by 2/3 to 1/2
- Fertilize fescue
Reviewing January...
- Condition soil for new roses
- Chop unwanted kudzu (use weedkiller on them in April)
- Plant pansies and English daisies
- Prune apples trees, pear trees, and grape vines
If you are a southern gardener and do additional chores during Jan and Feb, please let me know. Thanks!
