This time of year brings such dynamic feelings. First I love seeing all the new growth emerge. It gives me the energy I need to muster forward in the yard. I love seeing new things come up.....it just never gets old.
On the other hand - weeds emerge too. Every year for about 4 years now I contemplate pulling out all the flowers and returning to grass. The weeds are out of control in those areas, and I feel guilty working those areas when the veggie garden is staring at me the whole time. The pokeweed has been the worst - I spent 45 min digging roots out of a 2 ft x 2ft area. They always find their way into my flower beds! And the crab grass....ick. But this year, I am going to try tackling it a little at a time. I have been spending about 30 minutes each day, just working a 2x2 area.....this week I need to get some pine straw to cover those areas. Pine straw (layed over some paper grocery bags where there are not plants planted) make everything look better. So, we'll see if this new plan works....fingers crossed.
Our tiller broke. And it appears beyond repair. So, we are forced to rent one this year. I would really like to try the "no-till" method, but not this year. We had a new gas line put down and they had to lay it right down the middle of the veggie garden. They spent 2 weeks running large tractors over the area compacting it like crazy. And then they planted grass seed. Morons! Hehe. So, we will have to till - I can't get a hoe in that part of the dirt to save my life.
Took a few pictures of spring growth today - Magnolia's, strawberry blooms, pussy willow and redbud.
